Often, exams can feel daunting because you do not know what to expect. This can mean that you struggle to know what topics to revise and how you should revise them. Not only this, but all of your revision may go out of the window if you get into the exam and find an entirely different exam to the one that you were expecting. 

To make sure that you have a basis from which to start your revision and to check how well your revision is going, you should consider trying out practice questions. Your results from these will give you some idea of how prepared you are and what you need to work on. Take a Break 

One of the reasons why your study might have come to a halt is that you have been trying to study for too long. Rather than studying through every daylight hour, you should make sure that you take frequent breaks and that you study in routine blocks that can become habitual. These blocks can ensure that you are able to take in what you revise and that you do not become overwhelmed. 

You should try and revise for 20 minutes and then have a break after this allotted amount of time has passed. Making a plan will ensure that you know exactly where you are going with your revision and that you know what topics you want to revise each day. This will also ensure that you do not miss any topics by accident. By making a plan, you will have a more assured idea of what you are doing, and this will give you something tangible that you can return to when you are stuck or feel as if your revision has become aimless. One of the reasons why you might be struggling to take any more information on board is stress. Many people, especially students, are prone to stress, which can leave your brain functioning slower than it should be. It is important that you always make an effort to de-stress when you are studying a lot for an exam that is important to you. 

For instance, you should take a break and get outside, enjoy some exercise or spend some time doing an activity or hobby you love, and consider meeting up with friends outside of study hours. You should also ensure that you sleep well and eat foods that can help you de-stress and stay hydrated. 

Some people might also benefit from trying out meditation and yoga, which can help you to calm yourself down and zone into the world, leaving you better able to focus when you return to your revision. When you take the time to de-stress, you will also be less likely to procrastinate, which is a common problem for students.
